WELCOME TO VYBE SPEED ACADEMY
"Coach OB was my strength and conditioning coach in high school and he had a huge impact on me as an athlete and, more importantly, as a person. OB continually poured belief into me, celebrated my accomplishments, and made me feel like he genuinely saw something in me. What made him so special was realizing that he didn't just do that for me, he did it for everyone. OB has an incredible ability to meet people exactly where they were. It didn't matter if you had been lifting for years or were walking into the weight room for the first time, whether you were having a great day or a difficult one, he found a way to make you feel supported, capable, and welcomed. What stands out to me the most, especially looking back now, is how much he poured into young female athletes and continues to do so. Its rare to find someone who invests so genuinely in every person in front of them without regard for their talent level or athletic ability.
When I think about all of the people who helped me become the athlete and person I am today. I'm fortunate to have a long list, but OB will always stick out to me because his belief was never reserved for just one person. He made people feel seen, believed in, and capable of more."
"Working with Coach OBrill had a really positive impact on me, both inside and outside of the gym. He helped me grow not only physically and athletically, but also mentally and as a person. He created such a welcoming and supportive environment that made me feel comfortable in the gym and confident in myself. I'm really grateful for the time I got to work with him and for everything he taught me."
"As a female athlete in a male-dominated sport like ice hockey, I often felt like I had to constantly prove myself. Coach OBrill created an environment where I felt strong, capable, confident, and empowered to take up space. His coaching philosophy continues to shape how I coach my clients today. I encourage the strong women I work with to embrace their beauty and strength, challenge themselves, and recognize what their bodies and minds are capable of.
That is why I find his new program, VYBE Speed Academy, so incredible and inspiring. The focus on speed, agility, confidence, and helping young women become more comfortable and confident in their bodies is something I wish I had access to at that age. I know firsthand how much it can mean to have a coach who makes you feel strong enough to push yourself, confident enough to believe in what you can do, and comfortable enough to never feel like you have to change who you are."
"OB's workouts were thoughtfully designed to benefit athletes across many different sports, and I continuously saw noticeable improvements in my speed, agility, strength, and overall softball performance. More importantly, OB created an environment where we felt comfortable, supported, and empowered to push ourselves, take on leadership roles, and believe in what we were capable of and more. I would highly recommend him to any parent looking for a coach who will not only help their daughter become a better athlete, but also help her grow into a more confident and empowered young women."
"OB was my biggest mentor throughout high school. As my high school strength coach he had an incredible impact on me, both as an athlete and as a person. He is one of the kindest, wisest, and most knowledgeable people I have ever had the privilege of learning from. He was always hands-on and genuinely invested in my fitness journey, encouraging me every step of the way as I worked toward my goal of becoming a Division I college dancer. He had a great ability to clearly explain each exercise, making sure we understood not only how to perform it correctly, but why it was important."
"I was a dancer my whole life and had always struggled with supporting my technique and flexibility with strength. From being in a sport that is more art-based, and never having the curriculum to be in the weight room, I was intimidated and unsure of how and where to start training. But being in OB’s class reassured me that I could support myself and I was given the opportunity to strengthen myself not only physically, but mentally as well.
OB also was strict on the community to uphold in the weight room and class environment. Not once have I ever felt small and incapable in the room. No matter what, everyone was supportive and positive and celebrating records being broken, and personal goals being achieved. This is truly the perfect environment to thrive in and was so crucial to help me grow not only as an athlete, but as a student, and most importantly a human."
"OB is a true champion when it comes girls’ physical education and health, and overall long-term success in life. In being his former student, I have seen the work he puts in to promote girls to be their very best and seen as they have taken this knowledge and grown and carried it with them. I have also seen how it has pushed them to be better athletes and even better people. In growing up and coming back to coach at my former high school, OB is the name I have heard the most as girls in the sports I coach (flag football and girls’ basketball) talk about his classes. Not only that, but they look forward and talk about when they have OB’s class next so they can get new personal bests and compete with each other to do better. The work OB puts into champion girls in their physical health and success is unmatched from anything else I have seen in my career, including D1 basketball. No one has the compassion, knowledge, and drive like OB and it shows in his students and players.”
"As a high school student, stepping into strength training was something that once felt intimidating and outside of my comfort zone. OB completely transformed that experience. He created an environment where I felt welcomed, supported, and safe to challenge myself and try new things. Showing up for strength training with OB never felt intimidating. Instead, it became something I genuinely looked forward to. Every session was an opportunity to build strength, gain confidence, and have fun in the process. OB's ability to make hard work both rewarding and enjoyable is what made such a lasting impact on my experience.
"Coach OB had a lasting positive impact on me during my time in H.S. He was the first strength coach I ever had who made me feel completely safe, supported, and encouraged. Coach OB always pushed his athletes to grow, not only physically, but mentally as well. He knew when to challenge someone outside of their comfort zone while still giving them the confidence to beleive they could succeed. His impact when far beyond the weight room, and I am incredibly grateful to have had him as a coach."
"OB is very knowledgeable, motivated, and genuine. He was always excited to work with us and wanted to see people improve. He was able to challenge me and push me to be better. There was always a fantastic environment created by OB and my friends and I still talk about our class to this day. A great mentor, encouraging coach, and someone who truly cares for you as an individual."
"I had Coach OB as a strength teacher and was a manager for the Boys Volleyball team where I was able to work alongside OB. Throughout my 4 years, he has always been a mentor to me. He was always someone I could count on and he truly has a passion for helping young adults succeed in their athletic abilities while also developing a stronger mentality. His guidance and encouragment has played a huge role in my growth as an athlete and an indivudal."
"I didn't quite realize the need for strength training outside of just our routine practices and the impact that it has on overall performance. OB exposed me to that need at a young age and I remember gaining confidence and building that strength. Having that foundation ultimately led me into playing college soccer at SIUE."
"He invested not only in our success in the gym, but also in life. Although my high school class graduated long ago, he still stays in touch to encourage us in our every day pursuits. Seeing how deeply he cares for his own daughters make perfect sense, he is the ultimate girl dad!."
"I've been very fortunate to have Coach OBrill as both my golf coach and S.P.S. teacher. Whether on the golf course or in the weight room, he always made it a priority to support me, push me toward my goals, and help me become the best athlete I could be. He made training enjoyable while still pushing me to grow."
"As a vball player, Coach OB had a lasting impact on me both as an athlete and as a person. He was able to create sport specific training that helped me become stronger and more confident in volleyball specific skills. What set him apart was the skills that he instilled in me mentally, how to stay mentally tough, push through challenges, and have confidence in my abilities. Additionally, the culture that he created in the gym was incredible and something I had the honore to be a part of."
"Coach OB made training feel simple, effective, and something I genuinely look forward to. He always knew how to push us outside of our comfort zones while still encouraging us and making us feel confident in what we were capable of. I am so grateful I had the opportunity to learn from Coach OB and have him play such an important role in my fitness journey."
"Being a student and having OB as a teacher was a meaninful experience. Throughout my time at MW, he taught me the importance of having confidence and being able to believe in myself. OB encouraged me to keep pushing myself even when things were challenging. I am forever grateful for the time I spent working with him and for the lessons and memories I will carry with me moving forward."
"OB was always incredibly encouraging and pushed me past limits I thought I had. He supported me throughout recovery froma major injury, helping me rebuild my strength and confidence physically, as well as mentally. You can tell he truly cares about his athletes and is definitely one of the best coaches i've had."
"OB truly invests his all into the athletes he works with, pushing them not to just get stronger or faster, but to be a better teammate and a person. One of the toughest things to do to improve is to keep showing up and putting in the work, but OB showed me that through discipline, determination, and a positive mindset. I'm grateful for the time and effort he had invested in me because his guidance has helped shape me into a better athlete and person.
"When I entered high school, I had very little knowledge about strength training, fitness, or sports performance. I was only ever surrounded by dancing as I was a competitive dancer and it was my true passion. I was always a competitive and athletic person, but I had never been taught how to properly train or understand the importance of strength and conditioning. When I first heard about the Strength, Power, and Speed program, I decided to give it a try—and it quickly became one of the most meaningful experiences of my high school career.
One of the things I appreciated most about the program was that the focus was never simply on how much weight someone could squat, bench press, or hang clean, or how fast someone could run a 40-yard dash. Instead, Mr. Obrill emphasized proper technique, body awareness, consistency, and personal improvement. He taught us that strength training is about much more than numbers; it is about learning how to move correctly, challenge yourself safely, and understand what your body is capable of.
To this day, SPS remains my favorite class I took in high school. I currently attend Marquette University, where I am studying Exercise Physiology and am a member of the dance team. My experience in SPS has been incredibly valuable as I have continued my education and athletic career.
"OB always encouraged you! During my first pretest, he was one of the loudest in the room. He was not alone, he created such an uplifing environment, every girl would cheer one another on. I remember I was looking around at all of these amazing girls lifting 20-30lbs more than I could, while I was scared I couldn't even lift the bar. It wasn't until OB came over while I was trying and cheered me on that something clicked. That bar was lifted and so was my spirit. He helped me realize it was, "mind over matter" and that has stayed with me ever since. Thanks to OB, I became one of the biggest supporters in the room and I found my love for working out!"
