My name is Mike OBrill, and I am a Health & Wellness teacher and coach at Maine West High School in Des Plaines, Illinois. For more than 13 years, I have had the privilege of teaching and helping lead our Female Strength, Power, & Speed program; a program that has become one of the most rewarding parts of my career.

For more than 13 years, I have had the privilege of teaching and helping lead our Female Strength, Power, & Speed program; a program that has become one of the most rewarding parts of my career.
Each year, approximately 160 female athletes participate in the program, and I have been fortunate to watch hundreds of young women grow stronger, faster, more confident, and more resilient. While the physical development is important, what I value most is seeing athletes discover what they are capable of and develop confidence that carries far beyond the weight room or playing field.

In addition to teaching, I currently serve as the Head Boys Volleyball Coach and Head Girls Golf Coach at Maine West. Throughout my coaching career, I have also coached varsity football for more than 10 years, as well as boys and girls basketball.

I grew up in Mount Prospect, Illinois, and attended Prospect High School, where I was a three-sport athlete competing in football, basketball, and volleyball. I was fortunate to be part of some incredibly successful teams, including a state championship football team.

Looking back, some of the most influential people in my life were my coaches and teachers. They challenged me, believed in me, held me accountable, and helped me understand the value of hard work, teamwork, and perseverance.

Those experiences ultimately inspired me to become a teacher and coach so that I could have the opportunity to make the same kind of impact on young athletes.

My passion for working with female athletes has continued to grow throughout my teaching and coaching career, but becoming a father to three daughters gave me an even greater perspective.
My passion for working with female athletes has continued to grow throughout my teaching and coaching career, but becoming a father to three daughters gave me an even greater perspective.
My daughters are actively involved in sports and dance within the Cary community, and I have witnessed the excitement, challenges, pressure, and opportunities that come with being a young female athlete.

VYBE is about much more than running faster or becoming a better athlete. It is about creating an environment where girls feel comfortable being themselves, are encouraged to challenge themselves, and learn to embrace the process of getting better.
